Cakes… you can’t have a celebration without them. They are the ultimate comfort food for most people because of its sweet nature, which is enough to trigger the release of dopamine & serotonin (or what some of us who aren’t well-versed with the neurosciences refer to as happy hormones). Choosing the perfect cake when you want to surprise someone could prove to be quite a daunting task; What icing does this person prefer? Is a 2-tier cake too much? Will cupcakes do? Well, lucky you because we have gathered 5 of the best cake shops found within the center of Singapore’s Financial District, Raffles Place – so you won’t have to!

I had a royal chocolate cake to go($3.80). It looks pretty simple with no decorations n I thought I would be disappointed. However, it turned out to be quite yummy. The chocolate seems to have added some Nutella n it has the texture of agar agar-soft n springy. I enjoy every bite of it.

My all time favourite and must try snacks are their sugar roll, egg tart and puffs and pies. They cater birthday cakes too and sandwiches too.

2. Twelve Cupcakes

Source: Twelve Cupcakes
Quite new in the industry, Twelve Cupcakes was established in 2011 as a small cupcakery. But don’t be fooled by its short experience because in just a span of 10 years, they have proven themselves worthy by growing with 35 outlets spread across Singapore. You might think that their products are made in a factory because of the number of its outlets–they’re not! Their cakes & confectioneries are all made by hand, so if quality is your concern, Twelve Cupcakes has you covered. Despite being a bakery that specializes in all things cupcake, they have a versatile team who works wonders with cakes in both whole & intricate forms. But if you’re looking something for more than just cake, they also are known for their delectable chunky cookies which come with a variety of flavors to choose from.
With Twelve Cupcakes, your sweet tooth will never run out of options!

Pleasant for both my eyes and my tongue. The cupcakes were moist and the frosting was not overly sweet. Try red velvet, chocolate with yummy marshmallow and the blackberry. The cupcake stands were everywhere so it wouldn’t be hard to find one. We brought the cupcakes during promotion (6 cupcakes for $12) so it was really worth the price.

Delicious cupcakes and cookies before you head on the MRT. Had this fantastic triple chocolate chip cookie, definitely a good buy!

3. Pâtisserie Glacé

Source: Pâtisserie Glacé
We know the name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but hear us out. Pâtisserie Glacé is actually a Japanese bakery, brining Japan’s finest cakes & pastries to Singapore. Established in 2008, Pâtisserie Glacé continues to bake pastries that are both tasty and healthy. That’s something you don’t usually encounter with cake shops & bakeries alike. But there’s more–despite of its fancy sounding name & health-centric pastries, their prices don’t sky rocket like with most healthier options. For under $30, you can get a delicious sponge cake with rare cheese & mango puree–that’s a whole cake! But if you have special needs and are trying to abstain from eggs or other dairy products, their selection of chiffon is a must try!
For a healthy Japanese confectionery experience within the comforts of Singapore, Pâtisserie Glacé deserves to be on top of your list!

Glace never disappoints. Try to book your cakes online before collecting on the spot. The whole cakes sell out rather quickly.

Love their shortcake! It’s the closest to my taste of a cake since my childhood.

4. Barcook Bakery

Source: Barcook Bakery
Barcook Bakery, like most of the cake shops that we have listed, sells cake. You can get their best-selling mini mango passion cake for just $5.70. Or if you want to splurge on nice & sweet things, you can get their Gâteau au chocolat which is made of only the finest high-quality dairy ingredients, and premium dark chocolate. But what makes this bakery a little bit more special than the ones that we have previously listed is their custom cake option. Yes, Barcook Bakery can give you the cake that you want! Just be sure to place your order 1 or 2 weeks in advance, and you can be assured that your cake from Barcook Bakery will be the star of your next celebration! But if cakes aren’t necessarily your thing, their line of breads & croissants are still worth giving a shot; have a go at their walnut cheese bread for just $4.50, or their mixberry cheese for as low as $1.80!
From budget-friendly to premium, even all the way to distinctive cakes, Barcook Bakery is more than ready to elevate your pastry experience!

I love the new Quorn, met-free selections! Reasonably priced and service is friendly as well.

Korean style garlic bread ($2) can fight with PB’s garlic bread. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Strong garlic taste with sweet cream cheese. Worth the $2!

5. Bengawan Solo

Source: Bengawan Solo
This cake shop started off as a small neighborhood store on the east coast of Singapore by Mrs. Anastasia Liew in 1979. Bengawan Solo has maintained the quality it has established more 40 years ago by baking their pastries in the traditional manner–nothing but the finest ingredients, and rid of any artificial preservatives. Their Pandan Chiffon Cake is a store signature, along with a variety of kueh, lapis, pineapple tarts, ondeh-ondeh, and so much more! Their products are a favorite among locals and tourists alike, being a household name for locals and the favorite food gift that tourists choose. But aside from simple delicacies, they also cater to the younger market with their character cakes line; from The Looney Tunes all the way to Wonder Woman, there’s surely a cake to choose from for the young’uns.
Whether it would be for a big birthday celebration or just a personal indulgence, Bengawan Solo is worth a try!

Great stop to grab snacks for tea. The auntie is friendly and there’s always almost no queue here! The consistency of the nonya kueh across brances is something I always come back for.
Sherman Wong
I do love Bengawan Solo’s kueh. Despite there being a chain of Bengawan Solo stores all around Singapore, which would mean the kuehs are probably factory-made, Bengawan Solo still manages to achieve a certain standart for their kuehs.

Conclusion
We believe that no cake is made equal, just as preferences in taste differ from person to person. However, we also believe that there’s a cake that is perfectly baked for someone’s particular taste; you should be able to find your cake from the cake shops from this list!
