1. There are “furniture stores” and then there are furniture stores like journey east. If you’re a first timer at Tan Boon Liat like us, you’d might be silly enough to walk up each level in search of some good finds. We saw this shop in the corner of the staircase painted in what I must say was a brilliant orange that caught our attention. I’m incredibly glad it did because it turned out to be a treasure trove of good, tasteful and quality furniture. I must say because it was one of the first few stores we entered, we were slightly apprehensive about committing to anything but we fell in love with the range of teak furniture. Make no mistake, there are plenty of teak furniture options elsewhere but it’s something about the design, the vibes of the space and the way each piece speaks to you. We eventually walked away with a beautiful TV console (with travertine details) and an exquistely built dining table (with the loveliest wood joints). One thing I must say is the customer service is beyond lovely. Terence is a seasoned furniture aficionado with a distinct eye for modern, versatile and timeless pieces. It was my boyfriend’s birthday and he promptly brought out the alcohol to celebrate. Suffice to say, we are very satisfied customers and we hope to be back for that queboo rabbit chair!! After ordering furniture from here three times in 2 years, and as a result, having a flat that looks like it might be their showroom, I feel compelled to shared some positive thoughts, nonetheless also as a compliment to the staff for the consistently good service I receive from them. I first bought a bench and workdesk that I meant to double up as a dining table in a small condo (ahem. Hdb 2 room type A). Have been super happy with it, recycled teak that doesn’t grow mildew even after leaving it in a closed ‘condo’ for a year without ventilation. The desk (D Bhodi ‘Tango’) has a genius shelf under the desk that you can hide you laptop after work hours and stash all your other clutter. It does collect coffee/water stains on the surface, but i call it ‘patina’ because I am a grown up who actually uses things. To cut a long story short, I ended up ordering a few other pieces of furniture that complements the desk and bench…it’s a small investment (meaning not cheap) but for the build and quality of materials used, it pays itself off in long run. Not to mention the fact that I actually enjoy using the stuff that I bought. (Tala Alumina lamp. When you turn it up it goes from yellow to white light! Wahhhh!).

3. I had a rather ambitious dining table/bench concept that was rejected by multiple custom furniture makers, before I approached Other furniture. Lukas studied my sketches, discussed the feasibility of fabrication and agreed to take it on as a challenge – at a very reasonable cost. The items were done and ready to be delivered, well within the promised timeframe. Lukas personally oversaw the delivery and installation of the furniture at my home. Everything turned out exactly how I had hoped for. Workmanship was on point. Couldn’t have asked for more. Lukas is a true professional and he delivers. On hindsight, I only wish that I saved all the time and trouble and went to to Other furniture at the very beginning!
