Business Reviews:
1. I assume this have to be one of the best bak kut teh place in Singapore. I already enjoyed this more than 20 years ago when staying nearby, back after so long. Their kidney quantity in a bowl is generous, and though thick but well cooked with optimum crunch. Salted veg is in very fragrant oil. Teas was refreshing. The only less fulfilling part today is the small intestine, not sure how to describe but not at it’s best. Overall, still negligible given the positive part of the rest.
2. Soup is good, comparing with many other BKT in SG. But the pork rib is a bit overcooked. Customer service is Great too. Overall good experience.
3. The brutal Singapore heat had me beat, and I wasn’t exactly planning a stop at Founders Bak Kut Teh in Balestier. But seeking refuge in the first air-conditioned spot I saw turned out to be a lucky break. Having heard of their multiple locations around town but never been myself, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try them out. The menu boasted a variety of Bak Kut Teh options, and I opted for the Premium Short Ribs ($11.50 before GST). To complete the meal, I added dough fritters, $2, rice $1.30, and Chinese tea ($1).
The first sip of the broth was a revelation. Lighter than the other famous Bak Kut Tehs I’ve had, it still delivered a satisfying peppery kick. But what truly stood out was a unique, sweet fragrance that lingered on the palate. It was incredibly addictive! The Youtiao was perfect – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Feeling the effects of the heat and dehydration, I was pleasantly surprised by how much better I felt after the meal. The combination of the flavourful broth and the meat, which caused a good sweat, left me feeling revitalised.
The entire experience was further enhanced by the welcoming atmosphere. While the photos of celebrity visits lining the walls hinted at fame, the restaurant itself had a warm, homey feel. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive. In fact, they kept my soup bowl topped up throughout the meal – I ended up having a total of 4 refills! Considering the price, it felt like an incredible value for money.
